Description: | Carolina CAT, a division of Carolina Tractor, is looking for qualified Power Generation Technicians for several immediate openings. The ideal candidate would have more than 5 years of experience working with Caterpillar or competitor’s power generation systems.
The Power Generation Technician should:
· Have a sound understanding of electricity and electronics including both AC and DC circuits, basic gaseous fueled engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, charging systems and lubrication systems.
· Have a basic understanding of the effect of the methane number on engine timing and performance and an understanding of the calculations necessary to establish the effect of temperature, altitude, and low heat value on developed horsepower.
· Be able to read schematics and diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Troubleshoot operational failures of generator sets, related equipment or industrial engines.
· Installation and commissioning of new units.
· Perform both minor and major repairs to the engine or generator or components.
· Mentor lower-level technicians.
· Safely drive a service vehicle.
· Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed in a timely manner.
· Load bank test equipment utilizing either reactive or resistive load banks and safely and correctly tie in a mobile rental generator set and peripheral equipment.
· Meet the physical requirements of the position, including and not limited to the ability to lift, lower, push, pull, leverage and manipulate equipment weighing at least 75 pounds.
· Prepared to work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes and should be able to safely manage a work environment that includes electrical shock hazards, fumes, dust and noise. He/She should know and practice correct lock-out/tag-out procedures.
· Self-motivated to insure that he/she can work with minimal supervision and accommodate varying shifts or additional hours or overtime depending on our customers’ needs. Technician should be willing to respond 24/7/365 to emergency situations in an efficient and timely manner to effect immediate repairs to customers’ equipment.
· Demonstrate sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Be able to use the following tooling: Basic hand tools and electrical tools, torque wrenches, phase rotation meter, clamp-on amp meter, high voltage sticks, high voltage grounding equipment, megohmmeter, emissions analyzer, blow-by pick up tool group, and boroscope.
· Aptitude to become proficient in the use of the following: Load banks, vibration analyzer, power quality analyzer, and thermography equipment.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS:
· The ideal candidate would have more than 5 years of experience working with Caterpillar or competitor’s power generation systems.
· High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
· Clean driving record and a current driver’s license.
· He/She should have basic computer skills and good interpersonal and communication skills.
